Akshaya Tritiya – Significance & Rituals

Akshaya Tritiya is an auspicious day because of the story behind Akshaya Tritiya. It is a sacred day since numerous sacred activities are believed to have taken place together on this day. Lord Krishna blessed Draupadi and the princely Pandavas a Patra which can give all sorts of never-ending wealth and prosperity always. That’s why its is known as Akshaya patra. On this day which is why devotees pray to the Lord to bestow them with blessings and prosperity as well.


This was the day, when Sudama came to meet Krishna at Dwarka and offered him cheaped rice aval. In return Krishna gave him all three world as an offering of love.
Akshaya Tritya is considered to be an auspicious day also because Mother Ganga, the holy river descended to earth on this day. Therefore, any good deeds performed on this day are considered to be good and worthy. It is also believed that if the ditches In the soil are made on this auspicious day, one is rewarded with an abundant yield of fruits. For this reason, medicine plants are sown on this day so that they grow in abundance and there is never a shortage.


On this very day, Lord Parashuram appearard on this planet. The one man army, a powerful brahman, who vanished whole kshatriya clan 21 times who were propagating irreligion in dominance of power.
From this day, Jagannatha Rathyatra gets started. Also Chandan yatra starts, which involves applying chandan on body of Krishna deities to give him relief from heat of this summer season.
On this day, Veda Vyas started writing mahabharat a with the help of Lord Ganesha.


We can see, this is a very pious day, which can also gives us all sorts of benediction. So, we can do some spiritual activities on this day to get some spiritual eternal benefits.
1) Donate food & clothes to poor & needy people.
2) Pray to lord for unalloyed devotional devotional service unto his lotus feet.
3) Worship mother Ganges and see her blessings.
4) Read 18 chapters of Bhagavad Gita.
5) Visit Dham and other holy places to make your connection with lord much more stronger.
6) Serve brahmans or devotees and get blessing of saintly person.
7) Serve cows by feeding them fodder.
8) Buy some gold ornaments or home appliances.
